Principles
I thought about calling this section "How It Works", but decided that some of
what I want to include doesn't quite fit that description. I personally
believe that everything operates by a set of principles. Certainly that is
true of the technology of recording, and there are some principles that seem
to work most of the time in music, as well.
Besides, my way of approaching recording has always been technical. I
have always looked for the logic and principles behind how the technology
works, and then I try to use that understanding to help me solve unexpected
problems or to help me come up with new "tricks" for getting the sound I
want. One of my goals is to share some of what I learn with other
independent recordists. It is part of my attempt to benefit the community.
